Interactive Music Lectures on ZOOM

This most intimate classical genre is unknown to many music listeners. I’m talking about artsong, music usually set for voice and piano that specifically uncovers secrets within poetry that penetrate to the depths of the human condition. Together we will discover a hidden musical paradise that will deepen your love for all music as we explore the master artsongs of the 19th century. I promise you’ll find yourself having new “favorites” each session as we go from the German masters of lieder, Schubert, Schumann and Brahms, to the French composers Berlioz, Faure, and Debussy, and then back to to the peak of German Romanticism with Wolf, Strauss, and Mahler. The series concludes with the world premiere of an artsong I will compose specifically for our group performed by mezzo soprano Rachel Payne.
