Diminished Resistance—a peek at my 10 minute dramatic overture for full orchestra

It is no simple thing to preserve democracy. That is the idea behind my new dramatic orchestra overture Diminished Resistance. In every phrase, two distinct diminished chords fuse/clash against each other. They approach each other, they recede; they confront, they flee; they fret, they exult; they lament, they battle. The piece premieres this November 20 and 21, 2022 with the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra.

It’s always a bit crazy for listeners to try and make sense of a new music they probably only hear once. This may help a bit.
Below are short audio clips taken from a rehearsal. They are rough—you can hear me grunting and humming as I conduct :)
However, they give a “sonic taste” that perhaps will intrigue you to hear the full piece. I should also add that this is a piece clearly written for a highly professional orchestra. The students of the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra are brilliantly rising to its challenge.
