That’s the gift of this youth orchestra.
Whether our students ultimately become professional musicians, physicists, or plumbers is immaterial. What they discover is that sustained focus and attention can lead to deep understanding in anything they pursue. And sharing that attention with others gives it meaning and life.

The Los Angeles Youth Orchestra (LAYO) is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to contribute to the future of culture by developing a passion for classical and contemporary music in young musicians that lasts a lifetime. Established in year 2000, LAYO serves over 140 student musicians each year, ages 8-18, who hail from 70 different public and private schools. Composer and conductor Russell Steinberg is its Founder and Artistic Director.
