MULHOLLAND FANTASIES
FOR PIANO, VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO
Mulholland Drive inspired my piano quartet Mulholland Fantasies, the way it winds atop the Santa Monica Mountains, dividing Los Angeles in two, one half towards the sea, the other towards the desert. The piece opens with that energy, with the quartet winding around triads at high speed. Contrasting with that is one of my favorite moments, is a high cello solo hovering above the other instruments in the solo in the slow movement.
