My Pacific Nocturne from Night Arc, op. 98

Here is my Pacific Nocturne, from Night Arc, a set of four piano preludes. I’m taking the feeling I get from a Brahms intermezzo and translating it into rich eight-note harmonies (two interlocked diminished chords) and extreme registers to create the vast dimension of the night sea—its depths and gentle swells at night.

I will perform the premiere of Night Arc at my concert Thursday May 14, 8pm at Thayer Hall in the Colburn School of Music across from Disney Hall. Tickets here.
